Who is Vitalant?

• Formerly United Blood Services, serving Arizona since 1943
• Arizona’s largest non-profit community blood provider filling the needs of 72 Arizona hospitals
• Designated provider of blood components for patients in 11 of 15 Arizona counties, including Maricopa

 What is Arizona’s patient blood need?

• Approximately 700 Arizona blood donors are needed every day, even on holidays
• About 1 out of every 5 hospital patients require a blood transfusion

 Are there certain times of the year you need more blood?

• Organization-sponsored blood drives provide more than half of our state’s blood supply. Many factors can reduce the number of blood drives and donors, especially around holidays and in the summer.

What is it like to give blood?

• The entire process takes about one hour, but the actual donation is less than 10 minutes
• Donor Benefits: free mini-physical, cholesterol test, save 2-3 lives & find out blood type
